About Smith Mountain Lake

 

Smith Mountain Lake is a deep reservoir located in the heart of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains and is just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This large reservoir located in the Roanoke Region of Virginia, just southeast of the City of Roanoke and southwest of Lynchburg. The lake was created in 1963 by the Smith Mountain Dam impounding the Roanoke River. With depths of well over 100', the lake offers cool waters in the summer and fantastic fishing all year round.
